今日ご紹介するフレーズは
Paint the town red
＝Go out drinking and partying. Have a wild and wonderful time.
意味は、大いに［豪勢に］飲み歩く、街に繰り出して愉快にやるです。

直訳すると、街を真っ赤に塗る、ですよね。

There are a few possibilities, but the phrase “paint the town red” most likely comes from the Marquis of Waterford in 1837. 
このフレーズの由来は、諸説ありますが、 “paint the town red” というフレーズは1837年 イギリスのウォーターフォールドにいた侯爵から来た説が有力です。

He was a known party animal.
彼は、パーティー好きで知られていました。

 He led a group of friends on a night of drinking through the English town of Melton Mowbray. 
彼はメルトンモーブレーというイギリスの街を友人のグループを引き連れて飲み歩いていました。

There was some vandalism and in the end the mob literally painted a tollgate, the doors of several homes and a swan statue with red paint.
そして、ついに　酔っ払った人々が、トールゲートを何件かのおうちの扉、白鳥の像などを、文字通り、赤いペンキで塗ってしまったんです。

 Their drunken escapade is likely the reason that “paint the town red” became shorthand for a wild night out. 
この酔っ払いのエピソードがによって、“paint the town red” が豪快に飲み歩く夜の外出するという意味を表す簡潔な表現となりました。

Example（例文）
“My brother’s coming to visit, so this weekend we’re going to go out and paint the town red.”
私の兄弟が遊びに来るので、この週末は飲み歩くつもりです。
