bread and butter
意味は
毎日の生活に必須のもの、主要な収入源、重要な要素 など
です。
When the term bread and butter was first used in the 1700s, it referred to one’s basic needs.
この『bread and butter 』というフレーズが初めて使われたのは1700年代、必需品という意味合いがありました。
It wasn’t until the 1800s that the phrase came to means one’s income or livelihood.
そして1800年代に人の収入や生計などの意味を持つようになりました。

⭐︎名詞として使われた場合
I do a lot of photography, but accounting is my bread and butter.
私は沢山写真を撮っていますが、会計の仕事が私の収入源です。
⭐︎形容詞として使われた場合Health and education are the kind of bread-and-butter issues that people vote on.
